The blog is to encourage others to get out there and see their own backyard. Even if its day trips, weekends, holidays or full time travel we do it all. We love to share our travel experiences, thoughts and costs.
Planning our Wedding in March 2019 then taking off immediately after to Road Trip and Work Australia.
There is no doubt, we love a beer and there is nothing like dropping into the local pub for cold one. When driving the Australian country side, we love calling in for a “frothy” at any roadhouse or town. On our visit to the iconic Silverton Hotel in Outback New South Wales we were never going to walk away disappointed.
For a visit to Silverton, its is a leisurely 20 minute drive from Broken Hill, NSW, Australia, and almost instantly seems like a ride back in a time machine. The bitumen road ends and turns to dirt. The front of the pub and surrounding roads are all dirt. It’s literally like a you’re in a country and western movie and that includes the owners dogs and donkey’s that roam the pub strolling out the front of the hotel. Sometimes when you think outback, it’s going to be not very appealing at all. However the Silverton Hotel is 5 stars let us tell you why!
The staff are friendly and we got to spend a bit of time with the one of the owners of the hotel telling us about the history of the hotel, what upgrades they have done and their future plans. For the 70 year old owners, bloody thumbs up to you! They clearly have passion for this hotel and it shows in the workmanship and expansion of the hotel. The large beer garden has many seated areas that are mostly undercover. There is a stage for the many events held at the hotel. Inside the pub there are many quirky signs on the roof and lots of memorabilia from the movies that have been filmed out here.
The iconic pub serves all day starting from breakfast all the way to dinner time. The meals are tasty and affordable. The one thing you need to be aware of is your meals are served on plastic plates. Now I’m sure your thinking, ‘What the! However it’s the owner’s decision and they use biodegradable plates that break down in landfill and this their way to preserve water. Even if that is a bit of a downer for you, you must remember your in the Outback!!
To lap up the outback lifestyle, stay on site at the Silverton Hotel. The accommodation is situated on the Hotel grounds with separate car parking and to be honest it’s bloody awesome!! The rooms are all new and very spacious. There is Queen Bed, Two Singles and a Trundle which can accommodate 5 people. The ensuite bathroom is on point, a beautifully tiled room with large shower, basin and toilet. All rooms have TV and reverse heating and cooling. The creative artwork on the walls is done by the owners. These rooms are certainly not like the dodgy outback hotel rooms you may have seen before and some of the horrible ones we have stayed in!
The most interesting thing we learnt while at our visit to the Silverton Hotel was that the Broken Hill Propriety Company Limited (BHP) was formed in the De Borne’s Hotel, which is the current site of the Silverton Hotels Accommodation which dates back to 1885. To think that BHP started in this iconic place is remarkable.
We certainly want to come back to for a night out at the Silverton Hotel and stay in their wonderful accommodation.
