Silo Art Trail – Victoria

We live  in a regional community, and we both know the challenges that local businesses face. How can you attract more people to the town to live or visit? The Yarriambiack Shire   in the Wimmera/Mallee region of North West Victoria came up with a fantastic solution to bring more people to the area. That being the Silo Art Trail. Continue reading

Watchem Lake & Township- Victoria

The catch phrase known to the locals as “Where’s Watchem” makes you question, where is Watchem and what is good about Watchem?  Little did we know, for a town that would have less than 500 people in it, it has a beautiful lake and camping area that not only brings locals but many tourists to the town.

You could drive through the town in less than a minute and miss it all, however we highly encourage you to stop and visit the town of Watchem to not only see the magnificent lake but the beautiful assets that Watchem has.   Continue reading

Walkers Lake located on the Donald-Avon Plains road and 275km North West of Melbourne, was just another dry lake bed in the Wimmera region. Since early 2016 the lake has undergone a transformation with a new boat ramp installed and the return of much needed water from the Wimmera Mallee Pipeline.

Now Walkers Lake is growing to become a popular free camp spot. “Walkers” has been stocked with young fish and vast bird life now visit the area. Continue reading

Brim Silos & Caravan Park

For a town of about 100 people, this small country town in the Wimmera of Victoria has now become a must stop tourist attraction  due to the amazing Brim Silos. We must admit, whilst we have driven past Brim in the past  it’s never been a spot we would consider camping or stopping.

Brim has risen to popularity in recent months due to the recent paintings by Guido Van Helten on  unused grain silos. The  Brim Silos stand at 30 metres tall and display 4 local people. 3 men and 1 woman. How Guido completed the paintings on these massive silos to absolute perfection is amazing, he is certainly a talented artist. Continue reading

Wooroonook Lake- Victoria

051 053

It’s been a number of years since we visited or even camped at Wooroonook Lake. As the lake is central to the towns of Donald, Charlton and Wycheproof and only a 27km drive from home, we thought it would best to go and camp the night with our family and friends.

In such a drought stricken region it really is wonderful to see the improvement of the facilities here, Wooroonook offers 10 Powered Sites, BBQs, Playground, Pontoon, walking track, boating, fishing, water skiing, swimming and a lovely patch of Green Grass which is not very common in this area!
