Experience the Iconic Melbourne Star

A great outing in the Docklands precinct of Melbourne, Victoria is the Melbourne Star. This incredible observation wheel is an icon in the Melbourne Cty Skyline during the day & night. We visited during early April 2017 on a cold dreary day; Our personal recommendation is to visit on a sunny day when the sky is blue to capture some great photography of the surrounding city and suburbs.

Here are our key tips and take aways from our visit to the Melbourne Star Observation Wheel.

MELBOURNE STAR PRICES- OUR TIPS FOR A CHEAPER TICKET

Our biggest tip we can give is to purchase your tickets ONLINE!  If you want to save over $10 per person, then take the time to book online through the Melbourne Star website.  Or you could  find cheaper options through bargain websites Groupon or Scoopon. We found that we actually paid more when you rock up on the day. Do yourself a favour and save some cash!

MELBOURNE STAR FACTS

This Giant Observation Wheel is over 100 metres in height and it can reach views up to 40km in distance! The Melbourne Star is one of only 4 Giant Observation Wheels in the World and is the only one in the Southern Hemisphere. Stacey has been lucky enough to go on the High Roller LINQ Observation Wheel in Las Vegas which she suggests is AWESOME!!

From our point of view, if your looking for a great way to see the size of Melbourne City and beyond, the Melbourne Star is a great way to capture this and in comfort too! The fully enclosed air-conditioned glass cabins are large enough to allow 20 people to walk comfortably in the cabin. On our visit to the Melbourne Star we had 7 people in our Cabin. Sometimes you can be lucky enough to have the cabin to yourself otherwise you will have to share with others.

Each of the cabins gives you, 360 views of the city and surrounds, you can walk around each cabin and take many spectacular photos. There is Audio Commentary that gives you information on the history and landmarks in the area. To do a full rotation, it does take about 30minutes, so you do get your monies worth.

MELBOURNE STAR TIMES – WHEN TO VISIT

The Giant Wheel in Melbourne knowns as the Melbourne Star is open 365 Days a year!! Opening times do vary during Summer and Winter, its best to view their opening hours on their website.

We visited the Melbourne Star  around lunch time on an overcast day. We would  suggest try and opt for a sunny day and go at dusk to capture the colours of the wheel and city lights.
